We tend to criticize one another or institutions or even circumstances under which we breathe and I think we have done enough. It is high time that we take a U-turn and start rebuilding and recuperating our condition. As a student of economics I know it is hard to break a vicious circle but I also know it is not impossible. We will have to pick up a thread to weave back the tattered fabric.
Many thinkers will suggest several methods to begin with. There can be an endless debate on where to start? The work is stupendous but let’s take a start from one point. The starting point is to establish nationalism in our country. Let us begin with teaching and professing national spirit. Let Pakistanisation begin at all levels. We are Muslims and that’s it. We are Punjabi, Pakhtun or Sindhi or Balochi that’s it. We are Shias Sunnis or Braillvi or Naqshbandis, that’s it. Let us be Pakistanis. Let us inculcate the true spirit of Pakistan and independence.
Let us rise above these petty things that we have divided ourselves with. For this I urge the present government to begin by taking off TV screens that ‘Sindh ki tarraqi tou Pakistan ki tarraqi’ advertisement. It is a senseless advert and promotes provincialism. Immediately after that advert we see Karachi simmering and upper Sindh in knee-high flood waters. If that advert is being shown and developed to please MQM, then MQM should know that Mohajirs ceased to be Mohajirs 65 years ago. Let us for a change be Pakistanis.
