Mehta new Lahore polo president

Abdul Haye Mehta was unanimously elected as the President of Lahore Polo Club at the annual meeting of the club here on Wednesday.
A six member executive committee was also elected to run the affairs of the club in a smooth manner for one year . Mehta who was elected unopposed also served the club as the President from 2003 to 2006.
The committee comprises Naveed M Sheikh, Agha Murtaza Ali Khan, Atif Tiwana, Mir Shoaib Ahmed, Feroze Gulzar and Sher Alam Mashud.
The newly elected President said that his effort will be to make the club a place where polo talent is being groomed under a systemized programme for meeting future requirements besides creating most modern facilities to make it a club house which also offers facilities other than polo matches and riding.
“ My vision focuses on creating facilities of swimming pool and gymnasium in the first phase of development and then gradually we will add on squash and tennis courts and other sports facilities “,he asserted.
Mehta said it is a great honour for him that he has once again been elected President of the prestigious club which is a historic but most modern international polo facility.
“ I am confident that the construction work will start later this year in December and it will be the first step to turn the exiting club into a modern state of the art sports facility where all facilities are available under one roof “,said the LPC President.
He said special emphasis will be laid to make the LPC riding school an institution to groom the talent and potential of young riders helping them to learn the finer points of riding and to take up polo as a sport in due course of time .
Mehta said in all thirty polo tournaments will be played this year with the season beginning with the holding of Adiesso Cup from October eight. The most prestigious polo tournament, Quaid-e-Azam National championship will be played from March 17 next year .
“ This year foreign teams from India and Chile will be visiting our club in December and they will be playing exhibition matches on bilateral basis “,We confirm the participation of two teams from India and one from Chile “.
“ Our main focus is to expand the span of our polo activities by taking measures which contribute in the overall popularity of polo and horse riding “,he concluded.
