Belgian sent home for drunken shame


Belgium’s Olympic Committee has sent track cyclist Gijs Van Hoecke home from the 2012 London Olympic Games after pictures in British tabloids showed him drunk after a night out, Belgian media said Thursday. Van Hoecke, 20, came 15th in the Omnium race then went out on the town on Tuesday night.Dutch newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws promptly suggested he deserved “the gold medal in the category drinking and making merry”. “I am sorry – it shouldn’t have happened,” Van Hoecke told RTBF television. “But I think that after two years hard graft you have the right to let your hair down.
