Govt to spend Rs 8.6m on ores exploration

Punjab government will spend Rs 8.6 million on exploration of minerals and ores across the province during the current fiscal year. “Pakistan has large scale mines and ores but due to lack of modern technology these treasures have been untapped over the years,” official sources told reporters. During the current fiscal year the government intends to establish mining estates in Dera Ghazi Khan, Mianwali, Chakwal and Khushab while work on iron mines in Chiniot is underway. According to experts, there are large iron deposits in these areas. The government is conducting studies to explore coal reserves in the Potohar region. According to estimates large reserves of coal are present in the area and the government plans to set up mega projects to produce power from coal sources added.
