What? The institutional dynamics and international supply shocks behind fuel price hike and electric load-shedding are too dreary to make prime time TV fare, you say? And that it is not a matter of being interesting enough but that the talking pundits lack any scientific and economic knowledge to begin with?
Have no fear. The Pakistani media have an escapist fantasy especially for the situation: the car that runs on water!
Some of the biggest TV anchors in the country made fools out of themselves by obliquely endorsing this scientific Ponzi scheme.
The Double Shah in question is a man by the name of “Engineer” Waqar. He was on a talk show the other day and, pseudo science or not, he held his own against MIT thoroughbred Dr Pervez Hoodbhoy and former Rhodes scholar and physicist Dr Shaukat Hameed. But the scientists were bound by the laws of science whereas Waqar wasn’t weighed down by any such nonsense. At one point he started spewing out names of scientists and theories absolutely unrelated to the issue. An irked Dr Shaukat grew an angry shade of purple whereas a furious Dr Hoodbhoy said that “yeh shakhs” should be thrown in jail.
