The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday suspended a notification issued by the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) administration to freeze the allowances of 64 lecturers of the varsity.
IHC Chief Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman heard the case filed by the lecturers against the IIUI administration freezing their allowances. The chief justice granted stay and suspended the notification. The court also issued notices to the IIUI rector and the board of governance chairman of the university and sought their comments by September 20.
Dr Muhammad Arshad, Syed Naveed Altaf and 62 other lectures moved the petition before the court, challenging the notification issued by the rector.
The petitioners maintained that they were regular employees of the IIUI and were appointed after fulfilling all the requirements. They prayed to the court to set aside the notification issued on February, 2 2012 and direct the respondents not to change or review their salary structure. After the primarily hearing, the court passed the order and adjourned the case till September 20.
