‘Dengue is a serious threat’

Rawalpindi Commissioner Imdad Ullah Bosal has said that all the government departments, federal and provincial, should play their active role in fight against dengue.
He said dengue larva flourish especially in monsoon season and there is more responsibility particularly of Health Department, Education Department, TMAs, district government and other departments concerned besides the departments of federal government to identify the dengue larva and make efforts so that the larva could not flourish. The awareness of public about precautionary measures and cleanliness are the most important factor to prevent dengue attack, he said adding negligence on part of any government department would not be tolerated.
These instructions were given in the meeting held in his office to review the anti-dengue spray campaign in the division. Commissioner chaired the meeting which was attended by the district coordination officers (DCOs) of Rawalpindi, Attock and Jhelum, Saqib Zafar, Shakeel Ahmed, Mirza Mehmood-ul-Hassan, Rawalpindi Medical College Principal Dr Musaddiq Khan, Executive District Officer (EDO) Health Dr Zafar Iqbal Gondal, District Officer (DO) Health Dr Khalid Randhawa, in-charge dengue spray campaign, Dr Ansar Ishaq, Managing Director (MD) WASA Raja Shoukat Mehmood, EDO Municipal Services Imtiaz Ahmed Malik, Director Colleges Malik Muhammad Ashraf, Administrator Rawal and Pothohar Towns Saif Anwar Jappa, Tallat Mehmood Gondal and representatives of Pakistan Railways and Cantonment Boards. The commissioner said the DCOs should themselves supervise the operation against tyre shops where tyres are lying in the open and not properly wrapped. The tyres placed in the godowns should also be sprayed properly. The TMA officials should ensure that cleanliness of public parks and anti-dengue spray be completed. Municipal services department and cantonment boards should ensure cleanliness and garbage lifting in their respective areas.
