The Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Tuesday approved standardised fee refund policy for higher education institutions across the country.
The policy was approved during the 27th meeting of commission held here. This national level policy was devised in compliance to the direction of the Islamabad High Court to HEC for restructuring standardized fee-refund policy at national level. In this regard, a committee, comprising of vice chancellors both from public and private higher education institutions, was constituted.
The committee was headed by Engr Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani, vice chancellor, KPK University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar, while other members were Prof Dr AQ Mughal vice chancellor, Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam, Engr Ahmed Farooq Bazai, vice chancellor, Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management, Quetta, Prof Dr Masoom Yasinzai, vice chancellor, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, Prof Dr Qibla Ayaz, vice chancellor, University of Peshawar, Dr Capt UAG Isani, vice chancellor, Iqra University, Karachi, and Dr Anis Ahmed, vice chancellor, Riphah International University, Islamabad.
On the recommendations of the committee, the commission approved that in case a student intends to cancel his/her admission in any university of the country, full tuition fee shall be refunded till 7th day of commencement of classes in semester system and till 15th day in the annual system. In addition, half of the fee shall be refundable from 8th-15th day of commencement of classes in semester system and from 15th-30th day of commencement of classes in annual system.
FINALISED: HEC has given final approval for the establishment of Pakistan Technology Council (PTC) which will control, register and promote technologists across the country.
According to an HEC official, the decision to set up PTC was taken at the 27th meeting of the commission, which was the longstanding demand of technologists.
The council will work under the commission and will comprise the stakeholders from the Ministry of Education and Training, Science and Technology, IT and Telecommunication, Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) and Industry, the official told APP.
