Power shortfall rising slowly but surely

Despite tall claims by the government and PEPCO to put an end to load shedding, all the major cities including the Federal capital are witnessing up to 12 to 16 hours of load shedding while the rural areas are completely blacked out.
According to Load Management Cell, the demand of electricity on Saturday at peak hours was 17340 MW while the generation was 13630MW thus leading to a shortfall of 3710MW. People in several cities had once again started protests against the unscheduled power cuts.
Meanwhile the substandard use of furnace oil was also creating problems in the power generation plants. According to sources four plants had developed faults and PEPCO had demanded additional funds for their repair.
