Eid has passed without a debacle. Thanks to Allah Almighty. We had threats in Lahore, Multan and Karachi but the government’s increased vigilance (as was evident by decisions such as shutting down mobile services) probably worked.
But let us not forget and undermine the commendable services given by security personnel from both the private and public sector. Don’t these people have families of their own? Don’t they miss such occasions? Don’t they want to wear new clothes and offer prayers? Don’t they want to unite with their families? But they were in uniform patrolling and monitoring amusements parks and other public spaces where the people offer prayers, get together or go for recreation.
These people need our commendation. I would ask the government to allocate funds for extra payment to these people. If anyone deserves an Eid Bonus, it is those who ensure that others had a safe eid. Though money may not a big reward for their services but an extra buck to their families will surely be helpful and give their families pride and some recompense. I hope our government can spare these funds.
