A depressed porn star Izna (Sunny Leone) picks up a random stranger from a bar to spend her lonesome night. Only to land herself with an offer the following day and the revelation that the stranger happens to be an Intelligence Bureau officer Ayaan (Arunoday Singh). The offer, is to sleep through her way into the life of an ex-cop, now rogue Kabir (Randeep Hooda) and extract important data from him in return of ten crore rupees. One look at Kabir’s photo and it becomes Izna’s personal vendetta too as we are taken to the backstory of her roaring love affair with him. Whether her love reignites on meeting Kabir or whether she wooes him again only to extract the data follows through the rest of the plot.

Story Analysis

Except for the adult quotient remaining same, there’s nothing similar in the sequel from the original Jism. The Bipasha Basu-John Abraham starrer film that released way back in 2003 had created a furore back then and despite the controversial boldness, the film worked well among the masses. Filmmaker Pooja Bhatt who takes over the mantle from Amit Saxena and plans the sequel Jism 2 takes the boldness quotient to a different level altogether by roping in porn star Sunny Leone. However, other than that, there’s nothing that can excite the audience this film caters to because on the story level, Jism 2 disappoints badly. The theme of betrayal blended with a hackneyed plot that treads dreadfully slow bores the viewer completely. Moreover, even at that, the film makes you reminiscent of Vishesh Film’s Gangster, especially for its last scene that appears almost like a lift off! Even on the adult quotient, what you see in the promos is what you get in the film too. The trailer in this case doesn’t quite become a prelude to the main show as the intimate scenes are very few and far in between and none even worthy of the controversy they are creating.

Performances

Sunny Leone comes as a pleasant surprise and much against the many foreign imports namely Nargis Fakhri , Amy Jackson etc. Sunny shows great promise. Not only does she appear svelte but also gets dialogue delivery in sync with her dubbing and showcases more than two standard expressions of the actresses in Hindi cinema. Sadly, her acting caliber gets reduced to merely heaving perennially onscreen as if her character was Asthmatic. Arunoday Singh except for his gargantuan appearance doesn’t quite add much to the film and gets a very sketchy character to perform. Randeep Hooda remains the best of the lot.

Cinematography is average at best

What annoys most is the jaded dialogue writing by Shagufta Rafique who has been writing films for the Bhatts since long. Not only do the lines sound archaic but they also come across as corny for example – Aur bhi gham hai zamaane mein, Terrorist ko maarna punya hai or even Us jaanwar ko apne dil mein paala tha usne, she knows him best.

Our Verdict

Jism 2 may get its audience only courtesy Sunny Leone’s presence and the film remains worth a watch only for her. If you’re looking for a good story and a well made film, this isn’t the right choice for you.

Music/Cinematography/Editing

Music by Arko Pravo Mukherjee doesn’t quite come across as pleasant to the ears. Moreover, comes across as only an intrusion into the already meandering story.
