Shaikh Zayed raises awareness on World Hepatitis Day

To raise awareness on World Hepatitis Day on Saturday, the department of Gastroenterology & Hepatology Shaikh Zayed Hospital, organised a Hepatitis Awareness walk, free hepatitis screening camp and a public awareness seminar.
A large number of people including doctors, nurses, medical students and paramedical staff participated in hepatitis awareness walk which was led by former chairman and dean of Shaikh Zayed Hospital, Professor Anwaar A. Khan. After hepatitis awareness walk Khan inaugurated a free hepatitis screening camp. The purpose of this seminar was to provide information regarding the prevention and the treatment of hepatitis to the public. The participants of this seminar were provided with free hepatitis screening tests. More than 500 people under went free screening for Hepatitis B and C.
Shalamar Hospital holds free camp: Like other parts of the country, The World Hepatitis Day-2012 was observed in the city on Saturday to raise awareness among the people about hepatitis so that the goal of a healthy society could be achieved with early detection and proper treatment of the patients. In this connection a free medical camp was organised at Shalamar Hospital where patients were facilitated by free screening and other related medical checkups along with subsidized vaccination of hepatitis. Speaking on this occasion, physician of the hospital, Dr Haroon Yousaf, said that the spread of hepatitis in the country was just because of the reuse of disposable syringes, transfusion of unscreened blood, use of contaminated equipment, sharing of razor blades and unfiltered water supply.
