Jamaat-e Islami Karachi Ameer Muhammad Hussain Mahenti has expressed his concern on price-hike before the commencement of the holy month of Ramadan.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Mahenti demanded of the government to take concrete steps for the eradication of profiteering and providing relief to the masses because the people had been sick of cosmetic measures regarding control of prices of common man’s commodities.
He further demanded that the government should announce formation of special price control and anti-profiteering committees at the union council level. The committees should comprise of members from civil society with good reputation, representatives of political parties and government representatives.
He said the government’s announcement for subsidising common man’s goods with Rs 2.5 billion should be monitored as the corrupt mafia would exploit that package of subsidy.
The said subsidy will be only for the goods to be sold at the utility stores which should extend to open markets so that the people could attain benefit of that subsidy package.
He regretfully said the secular India offered relief to the Muslims in Ramadan but here in Pakistan, the profiteers had been operating without any fear of the government.
He said the union-council-level committees should be formed immediately and given special powers.
