Plan to handle rains and floods finalised: Sharmila

Special Assistant to Sindh Chief Minister for Information Sharmila Faruqui has said the Sindh government has taken emergency measures to cope with expected rains and floods in the province and the repairing work at LBOD has been completed while all breaches have also been filled with the cost of Rs 15,00 million.
She said this while addressing a seminar as chief guest organised by an NGO here in a local hotel on devastating floods in Sindh, said a statement issued on Tuesday.
She said usually 127 millimeter rains were expected in Sindh but this time 155 millimeter to 200 millimeter rains were expected in monsoon season.
The Sindh government had taken comprehensive steps to face any natural disaster in Sindh, she said, adding President Asif Ali Zardari was fully satisfied with the measures taken by the provincial government.
She said relief and rehabilitation ministries had also been established to redress the problems of the flood-affected people and certain embankments had also been declared sensitive.
She said women were provided vocational training so that they could provide support to their families. Flood-affected farmers were given seeds, fertilizers and other facilities as well, she added.
On this occasion, Sindh Minister for Women Development Ms Touqeer Fatima Bhutto said Sindh government was fully aware of the situation and was ready to face any challenge.
She said women development department was very active after floods and initiated many programmes to empower women in the society.
Dr Kaiser Bengali and others also spoke on the occasion.
