The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday rejected the intra-court appeal filed by real estate tycoon Malik Riaz in a contempt of court case with an objection. According to the SC’s registrar, the copy of the court’s ruling on Friday was not attached with Malik’s appeal therefore the court rejected it with the objection.
Riaz has been asked to resubmit his appeal along with the apex court’s ruling.
Earlier, Advocate on Record Raja Abdul Ghafoor submitted to the court the intra-court appeal against the court’s decision to frame charges against Riaz in the court of contempt case. The appeal was filed under new Contempt of Court law 2012.
In the last hearing, the court decided to indict Riaz in Monday’s hearing. In the last hearing, the three-member SC bench, headed by Justice Shakirullah Jan, refused Riaz’s plea seeking exemption from court appearance and ruled that he was bound to appear before the court until a decision to the contrary came.
Justice Jan directed Riaz’s counsel, Dr Abdul Basit, to submit an application to the court explaining the kind of exemption his client sought. Dr Basit told the court that his client had come to Pakistan for the last hearing while his medical treatment was in progress abroad. The court said it would continue hearing the case and issued a notice to Attorney General Irfan Qadir, who had been named a prosecutor in the case.
