PML-Q President Shujaat Hussain has said dual nationals should be conditionally allowed to take part in the elections but no dual national should be allowed to hold any public office.
Talking to reporters at the PML-Q House following a reception held to honour the party’s finance secretary and special assistant to the prime minister, Imtiaz Ahmed Ranjha, Shujaat said, “Dual nationals should be allowed to take part in elections but they would have to cancel their dual nationality before taking oath for any government office.” He said since the matter was pending with a Senate’s standing committee, his party would convey its stance to the committee.
About general elections, Shujaat said the next polls would be held in 2013 and the PML-Q would take part in the elections as an alliance with its coalition partners. “We would go for seat-adjustment with the PPP in the next elections,” he asserted.
Lauding the government’s decision to appoint a consensus chief election commissioner (CEC), Shujaat said the name of Justice (r) Fakharuddin G Ebrahim was submitted by the PML-N which was accepted by the coalition government. He said it was wrong for the PML-N leaders to claim credit for naming the CEC as the new CEC was a consensus nominee. The PML-Q president said reopening the NATO supply routes was a consensus decision by the coalition government as it was about decades-old relations with over 50 states as part of NATO. Lauding the services of Ranjha, Shujaat said the PML-Q workers were the backbone of the party and the party leadership would leave no stone unturned to accommodate them.
“The appointment of Ranjha as adviser to the PM reflects the party’s commitment to accommodating party workers. The PML ministers should keep their doors open for the workers. The people should not loose hope. We will do whatever is needed to get the country out of crisis situation,” he added.
Shujaat said he had directed Ranjha to sit in the PML House and work diligently to resolve the problems being faced by the party workers.
PML-Q Secretary General Mushahid Hussain Sayed said the US had lost its war and its forces had no reason for conducting drone attacks inside Pakistan. He urged the government to take a strong stance against drone strikes. “The PML-Q is not a family enterprise, rather it is a party of the workers,” he said, adding that the appointment of Ranjha reflected the commitment of the party leadership for the welfare of the party workers.
Meanwhile, Shujaat appointed Syed Qasim Shah PML-Q Khyber Pakhtunkhwa president. Mushahid issued the notification in this regard.

  1. PML-N is nowadays is in love with PCO CJ & his yes sir colleagues, not in parliament, constitution or democracy. Judiciary has never helped democracy to flourish in Pakistan but only the military dictatorship. And the PCO judges are trying to harm the democracy in the name of justice. It is necessary to restrict the judiciary’s unlawful authority. Dual nationality amendment bill is correct. If the overseas Pakistanis are
allowed to have dual nationality and right to vote in elections, why they should not become a member of parliament? The credibility of the PML-N is zero. They will say something today and do something else tomorrow. Dual Nationality must be allowed as it has no harm to country rather it could bring positive results to nascent democracy.
