Neighbourhood, village level events to mark the start of Youth Festival

In the first phase of the Punjab Youth Festival 2012, sports events and competitions will be held among teams and individuals of sports and youth development councils at neighbourhood and village level.
The Punjab Youth Festival 2012 will roll into action in the last week of August and competitions at the neighbourhood and village level will be held at six different sectors, marking the start of this three-month long extravaganza.
Around 36 competitions and events will be held in five sectors of the society in the first level of the festival. The five sectors include individuals, teams and family events, rural and sports (for general public).
The general events includes Cooking, Horticulture, Mushaira, Pet competitions, Photography, Qirat, Songs/millinaghme/poetry, Family dressing, Handicraft, Kitchen gardening, Naatkhani while Bull race, Dog race and Tippling/pigeon flying have been marked for rural sector and the sports sector for general public will have Arms wrestling, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Billiard and snooker, Chess, Cricket (T B), Football, Tug of war and volleyball events for competitions.
According to Director General Sports Board Punjab Usman Anwar, total prize money of Rs 93,200 has been reserved for the winners of the Sports and Youth Development Council competitions at neighbourhood and village level.
“The information charts, pamphlets, booklet and registration forms have been sent to all the areas of the province and it’s going to be an event of its own kind,” he added.
He further stated that the festival will give an opportunity to the people of all walks of life to show their talent. “Its our duty to tap talent from every nook and corner of the province and furnish their skills,” he said adding, for the purpose academies are being established at different places of Punjab.”
