As pre-monsoon rains continue lashing some parts of the country, the weather turned has pleasant in most parts of the country bringing respite for the heat-stricken people.
The pre-monsoon shower that started on Monday is likely to continue till Wednesday as scanty rains have been recorded in different areas.
“Light rain has been recorded in Gujar Khan, Chak Beli and Mandra during last 24 hours and hopefully, this spell would hit Chakwal region now,” Chief Meteorologist Ghulam Rasool told APP.
He said during this early monsoon bout, no widespread rain is expected and rains would be localized because moisture level in the atmosphere is comparatively low.
However, he said the dust storm would precede rain in all the areas.
He said low moisture does not beget rain so the dust remains in suspension in the air reasoning breathing issues particularly for those with complaints of dust allergy.
During next 24 hours, he said the same weather conditions are likely to persist as seasonal low lies over Northeast Balochistan and a fresh westerly wave is affecting upper parts of the country and likely to persist for next two days.
He advised the people of the areas with no rain to avoid exposing to the sun. Ghulam Rasool said the pre-monsoon spell would follow a dry spell till first week of July when regular monsoon was expected to kick off.
He said the winds bringing along the rain would first hit India and Kashmir, would flow backward once and would reach Pakistan after two days, what he said, was a regular phenomenon.
Though weather turned pleasant in upper areas of the country, some cities yet remained in grip of sever heat including Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Jacobabad, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan faced hot weather with temperature mounting to above 40 Celsius.
Power generation improves after provision of fresh fuel
After the decision taken by Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf last week, the power generation is improving and shortfall is reducing gradually and 400 MW electricity would be added to the system on Tuesday evening from KAPCO. According to a press release issued here today, after arrival of fuel at some other power stations from Karachi tomorrow, 300 MW electricity would be generated from four power plants on Wednesday.
Additional fuel supply has also been started for Muzaffargarh power station (GENCO-III) and fuel tankers will reach on Thursday and an additional 445 MW would be generated from there on the same day. The government is taking all possible steps to reduce load shedding and providing maximum relief to the consumers in the summer season.
