The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) has begun the installation of Aerial Bundle Conductor (ABC) cables, the power supply cables which use insulated conductors bundles tightly together. The HESCO organized a ceremony at Kohinoor Chowk in that regard here on Monday evening.
Speaking on the occasion, HESCO’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Muzaffar Abbassi informed that the HESCO was the first power distribution company in the country to introduce the ABC cables. “We are beginning to fix these cables in the densely populated and famous market area of Hyderabad called Resham Bazaar,” he announced.
According to Abbassi, the cables were made in a way to withstand storms, gusts and rains without breaking up.
Therefore, the dangers of the wires tearing apart and falling down while endangering the people of being electrocuted would also be reduced to great deal, he added.
The HESCO chief informed that the installation of ABC cables would be done through the loans of the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank.
“We have planned to bring down the line losses drastically through these cables,” he said and added that lower line losses would help enhance the recovery as well and curtail the power theft. The HESCO chief appealed the traders and business leaders to cooperate with the distribution company in the installations of the ABC cables which would be beneficial for them as well. The power lines connected with over 1,400 transformers and 39 feeders would be replaced through the ABC cables over a period of time, he told.
While addressing the ceremony, MNA Salahuddin thanked the HESCO chief for choosing an area in his constituency to introduce the cables.
He also congratulated the workers union’s central leader Abdul Latif Nizamani. Nizamani, later, distributed appreciation certificates among the linemen who carried out the replacement of the old cables with the ABC. The President of Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry Seth Goharullah praised HESCO for taking an initiative to address the complaints of the traders regarding the power theft and trouble caused by the old cables. He requested Abbassi to work out a load shedding plan for the upcoming holy month of Ramazan with the traders as to out avoid inconvenience to the people.
