The coordination committee – comprising presidents of all Pakistan bar councils, Supreme Court Bar Association, all four provincial bar councils and all four provincial high court bar associations – has rejected a strike call given by the lawyers, saying it alone had the authority to decide when to call a strike.
This was stated in a joint statement issued here on Sunday by Supreme Court Bar Association President Yasin Azad, Pakistan Bar Council Vice Chairman Akhtar Hussain, Punjab Bar Council Vice Chairman Malik Ghulam Abbas Niswana, Lahore High Court Bar President Shehram Sarwar and Pakistan Bar Council member and former LHC Bar vice president Ahsan Bhon Advocate.
Reacting to a news item published in a section of press regarding All Pakistan Representative Lawyers Convention, they said there was no link of lawyers with any announcement of a defeated senior vice president of bar council and Tehreek-e-Insaaf senior vice president at a so-called lawyers’ convention.
They said the lawyers took decisions through their elected bodies and they were aware of their duties and rights. They said some defeated elements could not make the lawyers leave their mission.
They said the meeting of defeated elements was unconstitutional and any call announced by them was in violation of the Pakistan Bar Council Act and rules.
They said such elements were not only scandalising the judiciary but also wanted to make it a party. The lawyers condemned such negative efforts at all levels.
