ATC awards life term to al Qaeda member

On a charge sheet submitted by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), Lahore, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore awarded life term to an Al Qaeda member, Khurram

Shahzad, and ordered confiscation of his entire property.

The convict, a resident of Rawalpindi, was arrested by the CTD from Lorry Ara on May 13 with a recovery of a hand-grenade and 10kg of explosive material from him.

Shahzad also confessed that he had planted a bomb in the washroom of a bus stand that was recovered by the CTD officials.

The charge sheet and prosecution revealed that the convict belonged to Al Qaeda and was involved in transporting arms, ammunition and explosives to carry out attacks across the country.

The CTD presented the suspect before the ATC after completion of charge-sheet. After a cross- examination of witnesses and trial, ATC Judge Muzaffar Husain Shah announced the verdict.
