Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) has urged the residents to use water judiciously in their daily routine to avoid shortage in the coming days with a warning to take actions against lavish users. Additional Cantonment Executive Officer (ACEO) Shakeel Jappa told APP that all out efforts are being made to meet the water demand of the residents of Cantonment areas.
Action in accordance with the law would be taken against those who waste water on washing cars, gardening and other chores, however, those who will not avoid lavish use of water, the board will cancel their connections. RCB is also taking action against those who have illegal water connections. To a question he said that RCB has been effectively pursuing its plan to avert water shortage and ensure steady water supply to the residents. RCB under its campaign launched to check and disconnect illegal water connections from its areas has disconnected more than 5000 illegal water connections.
Most of the illegal water connections have been disconnected, he said adding the residents have been warned that stern action would be taken with imposition of heavy fines against those who would be found indulge in any such practice in future. Special teams were deployed to check illegal connections, he added. He said, nearly 15 percent water connections in RCB areas were illegal and the residents were given a grace period of three months for the regularization of their connections. He said the RCB is receiving 7.4 million gallon water per day (MGD) from Khanpur Dam and five MGD from its 53 tubewells against the daily need of 19 MGD. The RCB has to supply water through water pumps and tubewells also, he added. He said due to heavy electricity load-shedding, the generators were also used to supply water to the residents.
RCB gears up anti-dengue campaign to avert disease: Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) has geared up the anti-dengue campaign to fight against the killer disease said Additional Cantonment Executive Officer (ACEO) Shakeel Anwar Jappa.
Talking to APP he said that the first round of anti-dengue spray covering all main areas of RCB particularly adjacent areas of Nullahs was completed while the second round has been started. He informed that a new heavy duty Aerosol Generation at a cost of Rs 1.8 million was purchased this year which is environment friendly as water is used with chemical for the spray against dengue.
He said fogging activities are also being carried out in different areas of RCB.
He informed that new fogging machines were purchased last year and now RCB has sufficient equipments for fumigation and fogging activities.
To a question he said that to raise awareness among the cantonment residents, banners explaining precautionary measures, have been put up while pamphlets would also be distributed.
He informed that an adequate stock of the ‘relevant’ medicine is being made available and will be used in anti-mosquito sprays through hand pumps and fumigation machines.
As far as treatment facilities are concerned, he said a special ward with all facilities has been set up at the Cantonment Board Hospital for dengue related emergencies.
A comprehensive action plan has also been approved to prevent dengue virus in cantonment area.
According to the plan, this year more aggressive approach would be adopted to cope with the situation and to fight against the dengue virus more effectively.
Under the special instructions of Station Commander and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Cantonment Board, special steps would be taken to control the dengue especially in cantonment area.
He said that all possible precautionary measures to control the dengue virus would be taken. Campaign to conduct anti-dengue spray round in all cantonment areas has been started which will continue till the threat of the disease is over. Shakeel Anwar Jappa said that as many as a large number of tyres have also been confiscated and tyre shops were imposed fines with warning that uncovered and unpacked tyres, new and used, should not be displayed.
