Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Kayani on Friday said the armed forces valued country’s freedom and independence more than anything else and were fully prepared to ensure its dignity and sovereignty. “We are a peace-loving nation and have no aggressive designs against anybody, but at the same time we value our freedom and independence more than anything else,” the military chief said.
He was speaking at a book-launching ceremony titled “What more can a solider desire”, written by Colonel (r) Azam Qadri about Major Shabir Sharif Shaheed’s heroic life as a military officer. The COAS appreciated the role and sacrifices of young officers in the war on terror, adding that the ratio of martyred officers and soldiers was 1-10 which reflected their resolve and commitment. He paid rich tribute to Major Shabbir Sharif Shaheed and appreciated the efforts of the writer and all those who helped in writing of the book. The book recalls Major Shabir’s acts of valor and bravery throughout his military career and during the two Pakistan-India wars of 1965 and 1971.
What world is kiyani living in? Does this idiot not realize that he has surrendered Pakistan's sovereignity by allowing drone attacks everyday on Pakistani territory? What freedom is he talking about? We are hostage to whatever America demands. When you become a begger nation, you lose all self respect and freedom. You are at the mercy of your masters. They can kick you. They can beat you. They can humiliate you. There is noting you can do about it because you have lost all self respect. You become a bought nation and nations that sell out do not have any freedom. Pakistan, under gillani, zardari and kiayani's leadership has sold out.
@KAMRAN
Before I make my comment on KAMRAN’s observations, I would like to express my apprehensions when a military chief starts talking about oft repeated words like ‘solidarity and integrity’. These words are ‘déjà vu. When a military chief starts issuing statements in which words are uttered then the nation should be on guard.
As regards to KAMRAN’s statement criticising Kayani that he has surrendered sovereignty by allowing drones. Unfortunately, the real power behind defence policies is Gen Kayani. The government has no guts to reign Kayani in. On the one hand Pakistani military is heavily reliant on US military equipment. See the delight of PAF when they get F-16 and F-18’s and on the other hand Pakistani military pursues policy of helping terrorists and protecting Al Qaida criminals. This policy is not going to work. PAF is not capable of taking on drones. If PAF dares to do the Stealth aircraft will play havoc with them. Unfortunately, the military has indulged in politics more than half of the life of the country and these so called generals, admirals and air marshalls are still living in their fool’s paradise.
