All Pakistan CNG Association observed strike for the second consecutive day on Thursday against likely tax surcharge on fuel gas, leaving commuters and motorists to suffer across the country.
Chairman of the association, Ghayas Paracha, said the ministry of petroleum had assured CNG dealers of withdrawing the surcharge on January 3 “but rather raised it and did not fulfill the promise”.
Due to this decision, he said, the CNG price would rise by Rs15, alleging that the government wanted to replace the CNG by importing expensive LPG.
Despite government offer for the talks, he vowed to continue the strike till the withdrawal of the surcharge tax.
On the other hand, the strike added to the miseries of masses, with thin public transport available on roads.
The CNG dealers were divided over observing the strike as it was observed partially in the country, with the gas filling stations remaining open in Balochistan, Sindh interior and South Punjab.
Report of hike in transport fares by transporters were also received from various cities.
