Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan chief Imran Khan said on Sunday that rulers are neither paying taxes nor correctly declaring their assets.
Addressing the post budget conference here, Imran Khan said Pakistan has defaulted and the rulers are enjoying at the cost of poor, adding that corruption in on the rise.
Imran said the rulers are not paying the tax adding that the big leaders have not declared their true assets. He stressed to impose a “tax emergency” to save the country because the policy to run the country on loans has failed.
Sixty-two paisas of a rupee collected in tax goes to pay the interest on loans while the rupee is also shedding value against the dollar fast, Imran said,
Sixty-one per cent of those sitting in assemblies do not pay taxes. it is imperative to bring the rich under the tax net and reduce of the lavish government spendings instead of printing currency notes, he added.
The corruption is so thick today that even the State Bank has turned into a corrupt institure, he added.
“The deficit in Pakistan Steel Mills has reached more than Rs40 billion in the last four years, while corruption done in Pakistan International Airlines and Pakistan Railways is not hidden, too.”
“The outstanding arrears which are a result of 400,000 illegal connections as noted by the Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco) have to be borne by the consumers in the shape of tariff hikes,” said Khan.
He questioned the expenditure for maintaining chief minister houses in all four provinces. “We have four CM houses while the people are starving.”
“The people in power should pursue austerity,” said the PTI chairman. “They should restrict their expenses.”
Imran said that corruption in Pakistan has reached its saturation point. “Either corrupt people will survive or Pakistan will. Corruption in Pakistan has reached a point where they cannot co-exist.”
He said that according to a survey conducted by Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda), in the last four years, about 2.8 million air conditioners were bought, while bills for only 185,000 were being paid.
Slashing the moves of Punjab Chief minister, Imran khan termed the recent shifting of session in Minar-e-Pakistan “all drama”.
Slamming Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Imran khan said the annual expenditures of presidency were above Rs. 610 million.
Adding recommendations, he said NAB should be made an independent institution and politicians should declare their assets correctly.
Imran khan ruled out all possibilities of coalition with PPP or PML-N.
Imran was flanked by party’s Policy and Planning Cell head, Jahangir Khan Tareen and Asad Umer.

  1. Imran is building castles in the air! These days he is caliming that he'll in the opposition if he fails to secure majority in the parliment. Our good captain will have to eat his words!

    • If somebody thinks that Imran policies/decision/statements based on "fear" then I am afraid he couldnt understand him yet. IK never set a target keeping "fear" in his mind. A person who sets high target and couldnt get there is much better to those who set lower targets and get there. Imran is a dreamer and the issue is non-dreamer cannot get there, further, Imran is filled with self confidence but the issue tht people who lack self confidence interpret as rudeness.

  2. Counting the days till election, days of modern day Pharohs including Zardaris, Sharifs to end. Now if the time for the people of Pakistan

    • InshaAllah the people will stand up & claim their right.

Nothing less than hanging for Zardari, YouSelf Gilani, Rehman Malik & Sharifs.

  3. Imran Khan is the only who can only save this nation now. The only other alternative is a mssive bloody revolution that will tear apart the whole existing fabric of pakistan and its society and a new pakistan will, hopefully emerge from there.
The choice is obvious for people of pakistan to make, ONE, peaceful revolution by voting overwhelmingly for Imran Khan , SECOND, be prepared for a massive bloody revolution.
I hope and ask the people of pakistan to opt ONE ie, vote for Imran Khan and get rid of these looters like zardari and shareef brothers.
Long live Imran Khan, Long live Pakistan.

  4. Well said”corruption and Pakistan cann’t co-exist,either corrupt people will survive or Pakistan”.They are pushing Pakistan to default to start their politics of provinces and Drama of Glasnost.

  5. ON JUDGEMENT DAY YOU WILL BE ASKED IF YOU SUPPORTED ZALIM LEADERS (PPP,PMLN,ANP,Q, ETC===) OR HONEST AND SINCERE LEADERS LIKE IK JOICE IS YOURS

  6. Imran Khan can play a more vital role as the opposition leader keeping the ruling coalition in check, than being in the govt. He needs a little more time to hone the art of being a politician and it will also give him a chance to be on the inside so he could get to know and understand the ins and outs of the govt. Someday, he could be the person that Pakistan needs as its undisputed leader but for right now he'd be better off playing the role of an opposition leader. It will also give the Pakistanis a chance to observe his performance and see his skills and judge how good and effective of a leader he is. Just my thoughts.

    • Let us wait for Imran Khan's successful completion of informal training proposed by you. You seem to think like everything in this world is prepared in a room by experts. In the real world, since the time Big Bang occurred, things are in perpetual state of evolutionary process. ImranKhan's entire life spent in thinking about cricket, and he never gave a serious study to politics. Now that he wishes to be in power is another thing. But this art is not in his bones, whatever training he undergoes. Already, he has been for 15 years in politics, and cud not hone his oratorical skills. Politics in his mind seems to have come as an after-idea.

    • Kamran, we DONOT need a politician, surely we have had enough of them.

Bring a man of action, a man of word & a man who is a true leader. Bring on the captain.

      • Even if we don't need a politician, we need a politician, and that s all we need. Pakistan is a complex country, and it is full of all kind of religious, racial, linguistic and institutional conflicts. To deal with those conflicts is politics. Politics and economics are closely interlinked. Pakistan's economy is in bad shape becoz its political situation is in crisis which is not of one person's creation, it is deep rooted in history of conflicts between ethnic, linguistic, an d institutional conflicts vying for powers. See Bangladesh crisis, and now Sindh, Baluchistan in this perspective. Besides, politics does not produce results in short time, it is a slow and steady process and requires decades to bear fruit.

      • @SKfro, I agree we don't need a "politician", however, we need a credible person who can generate excitement and energize the masses to make the changes necessary to put the country back on the right track. Army, under the present leadership has been sidelined and kiayani has been to busy being friends with the govt. to keep his job than the focus on what his job is about. He has already failed us. PPP and PML along with MQM, JUI and ANP have proven that they are not sincere with the country. They are more interested in securing power positions and being part of the govt. regardless of how bad the govt. is. That leaves us with IK. He has been a member of parliament before but he did not have a leading role and responsibility. He deserves a chance. We can judge him by his performance. Right now, there is no "real opposotion" to the govt. We need an insider who can play a forceful role in the opposition and who can expose the corruption and inefficiencies in the govt. Otherwise we will end up with another Musharraf who had good intentions but ended up being played by the politicians. @Reckless, Imran khan's oratorical skills are still far better than zardari's written skills 🙂

    • @Reckless. How so? Can you explain and give arguments for your statement? What exactly do you mean?

      • Listen man, Pakistan's is a complicated society, and is full of contradictions, and as such international opinion regards us as unnatural country which is faced with linguistic, ethnic, and institutional conflicts and different political forces r vying for power including army, and even judiciary now, and each one seeks to use others for gaining power. Economy is closely related to politics, and unless in a heterogeneous society as Pakistan's, people of different groups are not satisfied that they have due share in decision making, political situation will be conflicting, and unstable and it will hv big impact on economy. …..

  7. Kamran the truth is IK has the same old team…What change are you expecting out of him.

  8. Everything cannot be explained in this short space and I hv tried to do this several times but stupid editorial body of this newspaper blocked my comments, although they were quite academic in nature, and did contain nothing which cud harm anyone's sentiments. It was only an academic discussion.

    • Reckless, lets try again. My argument is that under the ppp and pml govt. Pakistan has not progressed. Atleast not at the same pace as other countries in similar situations. Right or wrong, both have been marred by corruption charges. They have accumulated wealth that cannot be explained. If by legal means, then more power to them. At the same time, if it was by legal means then they need to prove that they paid their share of the taxes on their income. If not by legal means, then they should be punished and punished severely so as to set an exaple for others. Corruption breed incompetence because an incompetent person knows that he/she can bribe their way into anything wether its govt. contracts or admission into medical schools. This takes away from a poor man/woman who may have studied and worked hard all their lives but cannot get ahead because someone else has the financial means or connection to put them ahead. This is a waste of talent and sets an example for others that money or connections are more important than hard work and good grades. Do you agree so far?

      • I am sorry that I cannot find myself in much on the same page as you. Things are not as simple, although I wish they were. There are some cracks in our society from the beginning and first P.M LiaqatAli Khan's murder was the result of those fissures in our societ that had begun to appear in our power structure at that time.

  9. But I am crystal clear in my opinion that a politician with sincere motive, and who knows the art of managing different political forces in a society full of all kinds of conflict; ethnic, linguistic, and institutional can resolve this situation and economy will itself set on the right track becoz it is closely dependent on politics.

  10. The editorial body of this newspaper seems to consist of an extremely conservative mindset, and does not desire anything to be discussed, no matter how much academic it is.

    • Mohammad "Boota", your name says it all 🙂 I don't need to respond to your comment and dignify it. Judging from your response, you must be a ppp jiayala.

  11. Try changing your keywords. They have an automatic trigger if they catch certain words or phrases.

    • I did change my keywords. Thank you for your suggestion, and my comments were published. I dont know whether you read them or not, but they were again deleted by management. Some intellectually illiterate person seems to sitting there.

  12. Unfortunately, Imran the public in Pakistan are too stupid to listen to your brand of honesty. They will always vote for the corrupt over the honest.

  13. There is a lot to discuss since Liaqat Ali Khan was murdered, and his murder was a result of serious political conflicts, rather power politics that had begun to start in our political power structure. All that was based on above-mentioned cracks that existed in our society since 1947, and even before that.

    • Reckless. We, the people, along with our leaders have made a lot of mistakes from the very beginning. We cannot afford to keep making these mistakes. At some point we have to stop and say enough is enough. I believe we are at that point now. We have to take a good hard look at ourselves and decide what kind of country do we want to be. What do we expect from our govt. and what sacrifices are we willing to give to help our govt. achieve the goals that "WE' want to accomplish. At the same time we have to demand from our govt. to be transparent and perform to our expectations. We also have to raise our expectations from our govt. We all want a better Pakistan. What we differ on is how we go about getting there. What has happened in the past is history. What we need to do is learn from history and not make the same mistakes (like electing the same people).
