The government is all set to launch “own Islamabad initiative” to develop the federal capital a model metropolis with collaboration of individuals that would inculcate sense of responsibility among residents for city’s beautification and uplift.
The programme would be launched Thursday by owning a school of sector F-11/3 that has been adopted by Prime Minister’s Chief Coordinator on Islamabad, Faisal Sakhi Butt who has already upgraded by providing all infrastructural facilities and equipment.
Addressing the students and faculty of the Preston University, Faisal Butt said as per pilot project, three educational institutes have been upgraded into model schools through physical renovation, academic invigoration and improved educational quality for the under-privileged children as a pilot project.
He said that the government is working on a programme to address the real issues of the city and provision of quality civic services to the residents of which improvement of education is the priority area. Butt said the basic issues of provision of clean drinking water, waste management, sanitation and cleanliness, and those of the development of stalled sectors have not been addressed as well as the proper transport system.
He said the major problems that capital is facing are mainly due to the fact that the residents of Islamabad do not have their say in the decision making process and the government has planned to give the local government system for the capital city for the empowerment of the people.
He said that half of the sewerage of the city is being channeled in the nullas and ravines flowing through Islamabad despite the fact that the sewerage treatment plant has been installed with the huge cost to cope with this problem.
The Chief Coordinator said we should learn from the experiences of the world and particularly the successful municipalities across the globe for transforming the city development as the world has rapidly changed in the last few decades.
He said the most serious challenge for our education system is to produce students capable to use available tools and technologies in an online collaborative, research-based environment for research, analysis, synthesis, evaluating and innovations.
“We are seeking suggestions and deliberating on the ways and means through which the standards of education in these government own educational institutions could be enhanced inline with the needs of the challenges of 21st century,” he commented.
Faisal Butt called upon the youth to come forward and join hand with the people working for the transformation of Islamabad inline with the modern municipalities to reinforce their efforts.
