ILO plans to observe World Day against Child Labour

International Labour Organisation (ILO), Pakistan, has chalked out programmes to observe World Day against Child Labour-2012, falling on June 12. The day would provide a spotlight on right of all children to be protected from child labour and from other violations of fundamental human rights.
Enumerating the details of events to be arranged, Media Coordinator of ILO, Zaheer Arif, on Wednesday said these will include a seminar, an exhibition, speech contests and host of other events in different cities of the country.
He said the seminar entitled ‘Human Rights and Social Justice, Let’s End Child Labour’ would be arranged on June 12 at ILO Auditorium, which would be addressed by UNICEF Representative Dan Rohrmann, UNESCO Country Director in Pakistan, Ms Kay Nagata, and other experts.
A speech contest would also be part of the activity where students of different universities would compete and awarded cash prizes and certificates.
A video documentary from ILO’s project on child labour (CACL-ll) would also be shown on the occasion. Child Right Network Pakistan (CRNP) will also manage a performance of street children.
An exhibition would also be organised in connection with the day where best 45 pictures of contestants of photo competition on the fight against child labour in Pakistan would be showcased.
The national level photo competition 2012 was launched in January in collaboration with the European Union.
A panel of judges, comprising mass communication and photograph experts, ILO technical person and technical person of photography, has selected the best photos in categories, including professional, students and general public.
Zaheer Arif said objectives of the activities are to raise public awareness and understanding on the issue of child labour, advocate and campaign on behalf of child labourers towards ending child labour in Pakistan and mobilise the country to achieve the Goal of Ending the Worst Forms of Child Labour by 2016.
Policymakers, politicians, donors, media persons, government functionaries, university students and people from different walks of life would attend the event.

Sub InspectorAashiq Muhammad from Nilore police arrested Talat Mehmud in a murder case and recovered a 12-bore gun from him.
Bhara Kahu police arrested Muhammad Ejaz for his involvement in LPG decanting while Golra police also arrested Eitebar and Namrooz Khan for involvement in the same offence.
