FIA nab five GEPCO officials on corruption charges

Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Wednesday arrested five officials of Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO) involved in massive corruption.
According to details, five officials of GEPCO including Superintendent Engineer Javed Ghuman, XEN Muhammad Riaz and Chaudhry Shukat, Technical Engineer Junaid Akhtar and SDO Fawad Aslam Butt were arrested by FIA over selling department’s machinery and transformers illegally.
The detained officials, made entries of the machinery and transformers in official record and then sold them to private companies and firms.
The accused have also been found involved in purchasing substandard quality transformers from banned companies causing heavy losses to national exchequer and also for accepting high bribes from rice and flour mills and furnace factories for installation of transformers.

Deputy Director FIA said that the detained culprits were being interrogated and strict action would be taken against co-accused after investigation.
