There has been much reporting in the media about the pathetic plight of the once-famous, but now in-the-doldrums, Larkano Civil Hospital, Larkano, which is facing numerous serious problems.
There is a shortage of doctors and essential medicines, skilled manpower including male and female paramedical staff, requisite infrastructure, proper security system, health, hygiene etc. It is also suffering from a paucity of funds. But, unfortunately, nothing has been done to improve and upgrade the conditions of this hospital.
It is a known fact that the patients are served substandard meals/food because the fresh food items are either consumed by the administration or parcelled off to the residences of senior officers. More or less all ambulances are in a decrepit condition and those which are in road-worthy conditions are being misused by an influential lot. The sanitation conditions are pitiable. Grubby and dusty buildings are haunting the patients and their attendants.
The Sindh government’s approach to public spending on health needs a radical change. It has a pathetic record of devoting a petty amount to such a vital sector. A sensible health policy is the need of the hour. All government hospitals in the province must be improved by the provision of sophisticated equipment, desired medicines, conscientious doctors, paramedical staff, a dutiful administration and dutiful sanitary staff.
I appea to concern authorities to take notice of the pathetic condition of the Larkano Civil Hospital (where mad dogs and cats are seen walking and sometimes sleeping in the corridors and lawns of the hospital) and direct the authorities concerned to improve and upgrade this hospital which is serving this city of four million population and a number of adjacent towns and villages.
