Target killings in Karachi

The law-enforcement agencies remain mere spectators as more people are becoming victims of relentless firing incidents in Karachi. The firing incidents take place in different areas of the city, especially Malir, Nazimabad, Gizri, Khadda Market, Lyari and Liaquatabad, and then frightened shopkeepers close down their shops and other business activities.

Owing to this, the city is going through a great economic loss. Many people have been abducted and killed during the last few years. Recently, five people, including one political activist, were killed in targeted killing and violence in different areas of the city. The targeted killing is deeply entrenched in an ill-conceived policy of `strategic depth` that is ultimately resulting in the strategic death of this unfortunate nation. Instead of finding scapegoat in some ‘foreign hands’, we need to do some soul-searching within the fabric of our society and also within our so-called national security institutions. Karachi is burning. How long will these targeted killings haunt the people of Karachi? No one seems to have any answers.
