Pakistan People’s Party deputy parliamentary leader in the Punjab Assembly, Shoukat Mehmood Basra, on Sunday said Nawaz Sharif himself wanted restoration of Nato supplies but he was opposing to the government for point scoring.
He also dispelled the impression that the government would allow Nato supplies under pressure. “Pakistan is a sovereign state and takes its decisions independently and freely,” he added.
To a question, Basra said the energy crisis was a serious challenge and the government was exploiting all available resources to overcome it.
He said an incentive package was being offered to encourage execution of energy projects in the private sector. He urged private entrepreneurs to join hands with the government in its efforts to end loadshedding in the country.
Basra said the prime minister would evolve a consensus among provinces before creating more provinces. “The PPP is the only party that initially supported the creation of new provinces. The prime minister’s energy conservation plan is yielding positive results as ample electricity is being saved to keep the industrial wheel moving,” he added.
