Ordinary citizen of Pakistan is fully distressed by unprecedented and persistent shortage of electricity. It is costing them their jobs and businesses severely degrading their financial health. Its shortage has virtual turned their lives into hell especially in this scorching heat of summer. They are taking to streets and burning tyres to register their anguish. Government has repeatedly failed to live up to its promises. Billions of dollars spent on private power producers haven’t made an iota of difference in the availability of electricity.

Now what we have learnt is that the Planning Commission of Pakistan wants to shelf the Thar Coal Project. It is reported that Member Planning Commission Mr Shahid Sattar has held backed the funds on the grounds that the project is impracticable and risky. This is what they have learnt when Dr Samar Mubarak Mand and his team has already gasified coal using indigenous technology and the blue flame can be seen by anybody visiting Thar Coal site. One can smell maleficent intent in the whole affair.

Nation trusts Dr Samar Mubarak Mand more than any of the politician. He was member of the team that vindicate the nation by producing nuclear device. People of Pakistan for sure trust his judgment more than anyone else. It will be in the fitness of things for the government to release the funds and give free hand to the esteemed Doctor to prove his claim. Otherwise political opportunists will capitalise on the issue and the nation will rely behind them. After all, people of Pakistan deserve to have illuminated homes and running factories.
