The Supreme Court (SC) has expressed annoyance over the absence of Inspector General Frontier Corps (IGFC) Balochistan Obaidullah Khattak despite having been summoned by the court. A three-member SC bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry heard the proceedings of the missing persons’ case in Balochistan. At the absence of the IGFC, the CJP expressed anger and warned of action against him if he failed to appear before the court.
The CJP further said that if the IGFC did not want to appear in the court, he should at least present the three missing persons before the bench. He said the Balochistan issue had become immensely serious, and the government was not focusing over the matter. He said the federal government should know the consequences of unrest in Balochistan, as the current situation would lead to a massive crisis in the province. Balochistan Police Deputy Inspector General (Operations) Hamid Shakeel informed the court that the CCTV video of a private hotel shows an FC vehicle picking up the missing persons. The court ordered to present the video. “Who has given FC the right to pick people from their houses,” the CJP asked, adding that evidences against the FC were at hand, and it would be very disgraceful for the department. During the proceedings, FC authorities assured the SC that the missing persons would be presented before the court. The CJP remarked that the bench would pass an order against the IGFC if he failed to appear, and ordered to present the three missing persons before the court during its next proceedings and adjourned the hearing until May 14.
