500 students deprived of education in Khumbanwala

SIALKOT – At least 500 boys and girls in Khumbanwala village have no hope of getting education as two primary schools, the only facility for them, are in the occupation of some influential farmers.
The village has more than 200 houses with the number of children falling in the age group of 3-12, according to a village elder, is 500. The Government Girls Primary School Khumbaranwala was built in 1963 and situated some 15km from city. Three rooms of the school are being used as a cattle pen by farmer Muhammad Nawaz Bhalli.
The boundary wall of other primary school has also been demolished and toilets are non-functional while the school has never been given any furniture. Enayat bibi, a village woman, told Pakistan Today that only a few girls whose parents were well-off go to nearby towns for better education.
The rest of the children, including girls, are illiterate and will remain forever as most of the villagers have small landholdings and cannot afford the expenses of their children’s education, she added.
SHAHBAZ BHATTI’S MURDER CONDEMNED: A meeting of Executive Committee of Pakistan Council for Social Welfare and Human Rights was held under the chair of its Chairman Muhammad Ijaz Noori. Executive directors Mushtaq Ahmad Qadri, Mansoor Ahmed, Shakeel Younis, Muhammad Ramzan Mustafie and other members of the committee participated in the meeting. While addressing the meeting, Ijaz Noori said the murder of Federal Minister for Minority Affairs Shahbaz Bhatti was purely a security laps. He attributed the efforts of Shahbaz Bhatti for the promotion of inter religious dialogues, harmony and human rights.
The murder was a conspiracy to spoil the image of Pakistan, he said and added that all Pakistanis were with the Christian community. The meeting demanded the government hold a high level inquiry into the matter to reach the causes of the murder of Shahbaz Bhatti. sLPG’S 60PC CONSUMPTION REDUCED: Due to an increase of Rs 5 per kilogram in the prices of Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG), its 60 percent consumption has been reduced in Daska, Sambrial, Pasrur and Sialkot. After the new prices of LPG, domestic cylinder for 11 Kilogram will be of Rs 1,239-1,298.
OFFICIAL RECORD OF ARMY PENSIONERS’ BRANCH SEIZED: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has seized all the official record of army pensioners’ branch at General Post Office (GPO) Sialkot besides starting a high level probe into the alleged financial bungling of Rs 900 million during last three years. According to FIA officials, an FIA team led by Inspector Shahid Hussain Chaudhary raided Sialkot GPO and besieged all the official record of the army pensioners’ branch, following the complaints of corruption. Different probing teams were already inquiring about the corruption of Rs 900 million for last three years and Rs 2 million have yet been recovered from some alleged corrupt officials of the GPO Sialkot. Further investigations were underway, the FIA officials added.
