HRSP hails passage of Human Rights Commission Act

Human Rights Society of Pakistan (HRSP) has welcomed the passage of the Human Rights Commission Act, for which a demand was made in the Senate by HRSP Chairman SM Zafar in 2002.
According to a press release issued on Thursday, the creation of the Human Rights Courts under the act will go a long way in dispensing justice in human rights’ cases.
Chairman Zafar said Prime Minister’s Advisor on Human Rights Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, was helpful in conducting the proceedings of the senate committee.
He stated that he is concerned with the human rights situation in the country.
According to the statement, the society expects and demands the enforcement of the act as soon as possible by creating all the necessary structures such as the members of the commission and secretariat.
The society will hold a seminar to make the people aware of possible benefits that they can get by the implementation of the act.
The meeting of the Human Rights Society Executive Committee was presided over by its chairman and was attended by Senior Vice President Mehnaz Rafi, Vice President Chaudhry Basheer Ahmad, Vice President Humayun Ahsan, Secretary General MA Shakoori and Information Secretary Adeeb Jawaidani.
