The leaders of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Karachi have said that Lyari was the fort of the party and will like this.
Speaking at a press conference at the PPP Sindh Media Cell, provincial minister Rafiq Engineer, MPA Saleem Hingoro, Ismail Brohi and Fida Dhakan have said that “it would not possible to eliminate PPP from Lyari.”
“The operation in Lyari is against the criminal elements and not against any community be it Baloch, Sindhi or Urdu speaking.
“If any body is innocent, he must surrender before the law enforcement agencies and if they do not trust the police, they must surrender before the Rangers, the media or the Sindh High Court chief justice,” they said.
Engineer, a provincial minister from Lyari, said that it is the policy of PPP and the governor to conduct targeted operations in the city wherever criminals may be present.
“The raids were also conducted at the offices of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Awami National Party (ANP). But when the operation was started in Lyari, sophisticated weapons were used against the law enforcers due to which the conditions spiralled out of hand,” the PPP lawmaker said. “Like the residents of Lyari, we are also upset because of the situation.”
He asked the militants in Lyari to surrender their weapons as the targeted operations would continue be it Liaquatabad, Azizabad or Lyari.
Hingoro told the media that since the operation in Lyari started, the kidnapping for ransom cases have gone down by 30 percent.
Replying to a question, Engineer said that Zafar Baloch did not belong to PPP.
“Everybody knows that when the whole nation was weeping on the murder of Benazir Bhutto, Baloch was holding a flag busy in supporting an independent candidate in Lyari,” he added.
The minister said that it must be asked from the Rangers personnel that who had stopped them from entering in Lyari town. “In Lyari, not only PPP but other political parties are also working,” he added.

I have done a lot of research on third world countries especially Pakistan and its troubled city of Karachi. French people are keenly watching what was happening in Karachi.
Lyari is like slums of Bombay. It is the oldest township of Karachi and its people are ancient Sindhis of Baloch origin and have always been staunch supporters of Bhuttos.They sacrificed their lives when Ms Benazir Bhutto was targeted on her return from exile.
I am intrigued by the statements issued by the Pakistan Peoples Party members claiming that Lyari will always remain bastion of PPP.
In my opinion PPP should forget about Lyari particularly after the indiscriminate action by the PPP government just to please fascist leader of MQM Altaf Hussain.
My question to Engineer Rafiq is why should the governor of the province be involved when he is just a titular head of the province. Besides his past is murky. He is wanted for alleged crimes and he should have been in jail. Here the chief minister of the province who should be issuing orederes is not visible at all as if he does not exist.
The governor of the province can never be an impartial man. Engineer Rafiq if you want to see peace in Karachi your government should remove him from the post and send him before the judges to try him in the court of law.
Extremely wrong presentation of facts by so called expert. What MQM has to do with unlawful stockpile of weapon by zulfikar backed aman committee. I can bet that so called expert from Paris has never visited Lyari. Lyari is awash with terror and killing by gang of aman committee. Only a day before yesterday I was attending wedding ceremony in the adjacent Kharadar area where all of a sudden gangster of aman committee came in and opened indiscriminate firing. Even PPP MNA such as Nabeel Gabool accepts that zulfikar Mirza backed aman committee is a terrorist organization. There is no MQM in the area which is known to everybody in the area. The area would remain PPP stronghold.
It is a wellknown fact that apart from aman committee even JSQM also do a lot of extortion in the area which has forced many Katchis and memons to leave the area. Ch Aslam has done wonders in brushing aside heavy barrage of firing from gangsters. Please tell this idiot Parisian as to how this weaponry came? Zafar Baloch says that PPP provided those to disturb racial harmony. Aman Committee was also involved in killing of Punjabi laborers at Chakiwara. do u justify that? secondly please ask any lyari person and he will tell u that aman committee is a killer outfit.
One of the extortionist Basheer qureshi has left. Now another Pakistan basher DrZulfiqar Mirza is on the run after being brutally exposed in the recent operation. Now world can see as to how he nurtured Lyari gang war into anti Pakistan agents. I request Army to take stock of this situation wherein Pakistan haters such as Dr ZM can openly go scottfree
