The beheaded body of a British doctor working for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), kidnapped in Quetta in January, was found dumped by the roadside on Sunday, police and Red Cross officials said.
Khalil Rasjed Dale, 60, was kidnapped by suspected militants on Jan 5, while on his way home from work.
“The ICRC condemns in the strongest possible terms this barbaric act,” ICRC Director-General Yves Daccord said in a statement.
“All of us at the ICRC and at the British Red Cross share the grief and outrage of Khalil’s family and friends.”
British Foreign Secretary William Hague also condemned the killing.
“This was a senseless and cruel act, targeting someone whose role was to help the people of Pakistan, and causing immeasurable pain to those who knew Mr Dale,” Hague said in the statement.
Police discovered Dale’s head and body wrapped in plastic near a western bypass road. His name was written on the white plastic bag with black marker.
“A sharp knife was used to sever his head from the body,” said Safdar Hussain, the first doctor to examine the body.
“He was killed about 12 hours ago.”
Dale had worked for the ICRC and the British Red Cross in Somalia, Afghanistan and Iraq before coming to Pakistan. He had been managing a health programme for Balochistan for almost a year when he was abducted, the ICRC statement said.
“We are devastated,” Daccord said. “Khalil was a trusted and very experienced Red Cross staff member who significantly contributed to the humanitarian cause.”
Four health workers, including two doctors, were kidnapped by militants the week before Dale’s disappearance from the Pishin area of Balochistan, near Quetta. They were freed after a shootout between police and their kidnappers.

  1. This is halal cut.I do not understand why they work in such dangerous conditions.there are more people across the world in less dangerous or fanatical conditions who deserve their aid and will be grateful for it.

    • You call the most heinous act "Halal" Here was a noble man doing his best for Pakistan and we decapitate him! Atleast i bow my head in shame . It is comments like yours which do irreparable harm to Pakistan's reputation worldwide.

      • Agreed!! This is not halal. How can you possibly think it is, Genesis? I would like to hear the ruling that says this is halal… or whatever you think makes it halal. All this does is tell the west that "Muslims are evil violent people" which they already believe. I am not saying we need to bow down to that, and we should not compromise ourselves, but this act is completely wrong and unnecessary. I would like to know who takes responsibility. Someone said CIA and I would not doubt that for a second. ;-(

  2. The man was a converted muslim, but still hatemongers dont care. This is what happens to someone who wants to help people of Pakistan.

  3. I really condemn the killing. The doctors working here know what to expect because they work in such dangerous conditions.A war zone is a war zone and thus the people working for the red cross are really in danger! As Red Cross represents US and as the US has caused much damage to the lives of innocent citizens by their drone bombing. That is the feeling of the people who live there. They are much hurt and angered by the loss of life of their loved ones……
I would advice dotors to go in there under Muslim organizers such as ''The Red Crecent "…Why risk your life???
Again I am much sorrwed by his horrible death!

    • Dear Rukhsana,
I agree with most of your remarks which sound mine above but i would like to correct you about the Red Cross. It does not represent US. It represents world. It' flag is Swiss where it was founded.
As a young doctor i worked for the flying doctor service in East Africa. Most of the doctors were christians but i had no problems with them. Most of my patients too were christians but they accepted me whole heartedly and housed me, fed me AND protected me during war. A poor christian patient i had operated gave the only thing he used to store water—–a hollowed out Ostrich egg. When i hesitated
he seemed to be offended and insisted by saying he will bag another egg soon. This present stayed with me for years. A Christian present.
By choosing to work for other organisation we will let those who carried out this barbaric act claim victory. Cowardice is shown in many different ways –this was one of them!
