The Lahore High Court was informed on Friday that the body parts of the victims who were administered spurious drugs at the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) have been stolen to conceal facts and save the culprits linked to hundreds of deaths.
The victims’ bodies had been taken for forensic analysis.
The court expressed grave concern on the theft of the samples taken from the dead bodies and ordered a probe into the matter.
The submissions were made by Judicial Activism Panel, a public interest litigation firm, through a civil miscellaneous application filed in a pending matter seeking a judicial inquiry into the PIC deaths.
Earlier, the petitioner’s counsel had submitted that body parts of the victims had been stolen from the King Edward Medical College Forensic Department and the PIC Forensic Department.
He also mentioned that the Punjab government did not take notice of the theft and contended that it would benefit the culprits.
After hearing the submissions, Justice Sardar Tariq Masood allowed to make newspaper reports a part of the record and adjourned the matter till May 7.
Justice Umar Ata Bandial will hear the matter on next hearing as the main case was pending before him.
