Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Monday said activists of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), the Awami National Party (ANP) and some other parties were involved in extortion in Karachi.
Talking to reporters at the Jinnah International Airport Karachi, Malik said the prime minister’s son Ali Musa Gilani had reached the country to help with the investigation into the drugs scam case.
Criticising the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz for opposing the composition of probe body formed to investigate the air crash that killed 127 people near Islamabad, the minister said Opposition Leader Chaduhry Nisar Ali Khan was raising objection due to inclusion of a PCO judge in the committee, but there were several PCO judges working in the country.
He said Bhoja Airline was awarded license during Nawaz Sharif’s government on soft conditions, adding that he would take action against those persons who received bribery for restoring licence of Bhoja Airline if proof was found in this regard.
Malik said it was his appeal to Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan not to do politics over corpses. “By expressing his reservation on Judicial Commission, he has tried to hide his own guilt,” he said. “It was unfair on the part of Chaudhry Nisar to say that Air Blue incident report was not made public, he wanted Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to be arrested,” Malik said.
Malik said the licences to private airlines were issued in PML-N era and asked why such soft terms were kept at that time.
He asked for evidence relating to the allegation of taking bribe for the restoration of Bhoja Air’s licence and assured immediate action.
Malik said old planes should not be included in the airline fleet besides enquiry was underway about why old planes of only Cathy Pacific came here.
To a question, he said law enforcement agencies arrested a group belonging to Gilgit who was involved in disturbing law and order situation in Gilgit-Balistan, Karachi and Balochistan, adding that arms and ammunitions were being smuggled in Karachi through the Hub area.
