Police arrest 256 drug-pushers

Islamabad police effectively countered criminal elements during the current year and nabbed 256 drug pushers, liquor sellers and 215 criminals for having illegal weapons besides recovering huge cache of contraband, liquor and weapons from their possession, a police spokesman said.
A total of 215 persons were arrested during first three months of the year 2012 and 218 cases were registered against them for having illegal weapons. A total of 182 pistols, 13 guns, three carbines, three hand grenades, nine rifles, six Kalashnikovs and 2091 rounds were recovered from the nabbed persons. Likewise, 256 persons were arrested during the first three months of this year for their drug pushing activities. Police also recovered 7.221 kg heroin, 118.588 kg hashish, 5.676 kg opium, 2749 wine bottles from them during the first three months of current year.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, Bani Amin Khan has said Islamabad Police is a committed force which is delivering through best of its capabilities.
He said performance of the force is quite satisfactory against criminal elements and such efforts would remain continue in future to curb crime. SSP Islamabad Muhammad Yousuf Malik said Islamabad Police had always performed diligently and performance of the capital police can be gauged from the fact that number of arrests and detection of crime in the capital is more than any other district police across the country. He has further directed all police officials for accelerating efforts against criminals elements and ensure their arrest. SSP Islamabad has directed for intensifying checking at the entry as well as exit points of the city so that drug peddling should be curbed.
Cleanliness drive in Rawalpindi from today : The Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) of the City District Government Rawalpindi (CDGR) and local members of the provincial assembly will launch cleanliness drive in the city from today (Monday).
Member of Punjab Assembly Ziaullah Shah and Malik Ghulam Raza, Executive District Officer (Municipal) Imtiaz Ahamd Malik and SWMD Director, Dr. Mazhar Azeem in a meeting decided to start a cleanliness and garbage disposing campaign on an emergency basis. The meeting also decided that in the second phase, a weekly cleanliness drive would be conducted in all union councils of the city. The SWMD has formed teams of four workers in every union council.
NADRA helps identify 67 plane crash victims: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has helped identify bodies of 67 out of total 127 passengers and crew of the Bhoja Airline plane crash through its biometric identification system. “Using our Automated Finger Identification System (AFIS) and Facial Recognition System (FRS), the authority’s dedicated tech-team identified 67 passengers as unfortunately hands and faces of some of the victims of air-crash tragedy were unrecognizable due to the wounds and cuts,” said Tariq Malik, Deputy Chairman of NADRA, in a statement on Sunday.
Expressing sympathy with the families of tragic plane crash victims, Malik said the NADRA would go an extra mile to help identify the victims. “Our technical staff has been working round the clock right after the unfortunate crash and we will use all of our resources, technology and national database to identify the victims,” he added
He said all of NADRA employees were aggrieved over the incident and prayed to Almighty Allah to grant the departed souls eternal peace and give courage to the bereaved families to bear the loss.
Marriage hall owners warned of action : District Coordination Officer (DCO) Rawalpindi Saqib Zafar has warned the owners of marriage halls of strict action for not observing timings as per government instructions.
The Punjab government has ordered closure of marriage halls by 10 pm as per power load management plan. The DCO said in a statement on Sunday some marriage hall managements were violating the government instructions. The managements would be given notices at first stage and then cases would be lodged against them along with the parents of brides and bridegrooms if they continued violating the law. He directed the tehsil municipal officers to ensure strict compliance of the government orders by the marriage hall managements.
