Driving licenses for university students

An automobile learner permit van of the City Traffic Police, issued 221 permits to the students of Government College University at the campus on Thursday. Traffic police following the direction by the Chief Traffic Officer, Dr Usman Anwar, launched a programme to issue learner permits and fresh driving licences at the doorstep of the citizen especially the educational institutions and at work places to save the time of public. The traffic education unit also was accompanied by the automobile learner permit van which conducted a special lecture for the students. The education officers educated the students about the traffic laws, road signs and other measures of a safe journey.
Video and audio clips were shown to the students on wheelies, over speeding and use of mobile phone during driving and told them the hazards of such habits. Students were told that after 42 days of issuing the learner permit the automobile van will again come to the university and will conduct driving tests of the holders of learner permits and issue on the spot driving licences. During the special drive, three more automobile vans would be acquired soon to facilitate the citizens. CTO in a statement issued on Thursday said that the wardens were initiating actions against the violators of traffic rules across the provincial capital and they were not allowed to exploit the citizens. He directed the traffic police officials to avoid unnecessary arguments with the drivers of vehicles and only educate them on minor violations.
