Former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Senator Aitzaz Ahsan on Friday warned a section of the media against legal action for “false reporting”.
Talking to journalists outside the Supreme Court, Aitzaz said that a newspaper termed him as “a liar” for his argument in the court while the court was yet to decide whether he had “lied” or not.
He said that he had put the news item before the SC bench. Aitzaz said that he could sue the reporters for billions of rupees for false reporting – an action that might cost them their jobs – but that he did not want to bully the media.
Aitzaz said that he was not against the media’s freedom, as it had supported the lawyers’ movement in restoring deposed judges of the Supreme Court.
He said that he was being targeted because he had taken the case of Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani. He claimed that the case had nothing to do with corruption while the media had depicted it as a corruption case.

Aitzaz Ahsan is the only leader who has vision and strength to overcome the crises of this nation and country. Those who have become against him are doing so either under misconception or due to political influence. Sooner or later they would definitely relize that they were wrong. Perhapse we are not a matured nation. We are sentimental people habitual to praise and criticize out of context. Aitzaz has not contested any corruption case of PM (YRG). He has only tried to prove before the Supreme Court that not writing a letter to the Swiss Govt. does not amount contempt of Court. Time shall establish that his efforts in this regard were in the intrest of System (Parliament + Executive + Judiciary). He does not deserve to be blamed like recorded comments. Rest assure he has no greed for welth or positions. He is above to all such petty things.
I am not sure how Mr. Zafar has come to conclusion about the vision of Mr. Aitzaz Ahsan. He is like all of us looking after his personal interest. I have no issue with choosing his clients and to hold whatever opinion he thinks fit but to attribute him with vision seems bit exagerated.
