CM promises more houses, buses

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said provision of shelter to the poor, disadvantaged and homeless people is the agenda of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.
He disclosed that after Aashiyana Housing Scheme, Punjab government is launching a programme for the distribution of five marla residential plots among shelter-less people in the cities and villages of the province. He said process of identification of one lakh, 10 thousand and 554 suitable residential plots had been completed. He said that proprietary rights will also be awarded to the dwellers of Katchi Abadis throughout the province and this process will be started from April 26 and completed by May 30.
He was addressing a meeting regarding five marla scheme and awarding of proprietary rights to the dwellers of katchi abadies, here on Thursday. Provincial Ministers Rana Sanaullah Khan, Haji Ehsanuddin Qureshi, Malik Nadeem Kamran, Members National and Provincial Assembly, Senior Member Board of Revenue, Chairman Planning and Development, secretaries of various departments, divisional commissioners, LDA directors general and Katchi Abadis and officers concerned were present. Former member British parliament Ch Sarwar also attended the meeting. The CM announced that computerised balloting will be held on June 6. He said all basic amenities will be provided to the residents of these schemes.
Separately, he said Punjab government will provide best, rapid, modern and organised system of public transport to the masses in the shape of metro bus service which will help resolve traffic and travelling problems. He said public transport was being made comfortable for the people by organising it on modern lines so that the commuters could reach their destination on time. He said transport system was an identity of cities and metro bus service will give a new identity to historical city Lahore. He said common man would especially benefit from this service in connection with travelling.
He was presiding over a meeting held to review the progress of the metro bus service project on Thursday. Planning and Development chairman, secretary transport, DG LDA and representatives of concerned departments also attended the meeting.
The CM said metro bus service was very important and a unique project in the 64 years’ history of Pakistan through which speedy, comfortable, organised and economical public transport will be available to the commuters. He said that metro bus service especially be beneficial for the students disabled, elders and women. He said that most modern air conditioned buses having doors on both sides will be plied for metro bus service. He said that the stops of metro bus service have also specially been designed.
He also expressed his satisfaction that besides launching of metro bus service, an intelligent transport system will also be introduced in Lahore. He said that immediate help would also be provided to the people through this modern system besides controlling the traffic of Lahore. Various technical matters of metro bus service were also discussed in detail on this occasion.
