Literacy is defined as persons aged 15 or above who can read and write. According to this definition, Pakistan is officially reported to have 50 percent literacy rate. Which means half of its population is illiterate. With such inflation, poverty and child labour this rate is expected to increase in future.
The government is not giving education the same importance as compared to other fields. Rs 39,513 million is running year’s total allocation for education ministry out of Rs 2767 billion total budget.
The government should give education importance and try to increase literacy rate by increasing the share of education in the forthcoming budget.
