Dargah diplomacy

All governments we have had have claimed, in their own way, one thing for sure that they want good relations with India. I do not understand this and wish if your readers can apprise me with their views.

What good relation means? And why is it the desire of Pakistan to have good relations? Disputes between the two are unresolved and multiplying both in numbers and magnitude. Since lots of water has flown under the bridge since 1947, Kashmir dispute has remained outstanding and for all intents and purposes, it has been sent to cold-storage by our rulers for safe keeping.

India has violated Indus Water Treaty of 1969 blocked our water in their own typical styles. Siachen is another dispute. Zia-ul-Haq applied ‘cricket diplomacy’. Musharraf applied ‘Taj Mahal diplomacy’. Now Asif Ali Zardari applies ‘dargah diplomacy’.

These diplomacies neither created any way in the past nor will they create any headway now. India remains hostile towards Pakistan when it comes to granting any margin. India gets away smartly internationally. India has made progress economically in all these years and can now be called a ‘super power’. India thwarts China in consumer goods market.

India blackmails US and gets civil nuclear programme. India has naughty Israel in its pocket. Indian small-industrial giant is ready to unleash into Pakistan having sick and sickening economy. MFN status to India is around the corner. India is all well planned and we are busy inventing diplomacy terms.

Individuals like Rahat Fateh Ali, Veena Malik, Wasim Akram, Ali Zafar, Aisam-ul-Haque etc are making full use of Indian dominance in their respective fields. And now I read Babar Awan, having been ditched by his god fathers, has gone to Dehli to try his luck there. Let us not keep harping on old and outdated public-rally rhetoric and dictums. Let us sit with India to resolve outstanding and serious issues on one to one basis. We need some wisdom. But the question is do we have some?
