Any problems regarding municipality matters faced by the journalist community and the owners or editors of newspapers will be resolved on preferential basis, said Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed.
Speaking at a reception held by the KMC in honour of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) General Council members, he said the newspapers published from other cities will be provided with all possible help if they want to begin publication from Karachi.
The administrator said importance of newspapers and magazines cannot be ignored. “This is the only way that can be used for establishing coordination among cities, countries and nations.”
Appreciating the role of journalists and their associations in highlighting faults in the society, he said their guidance is needed in performing municipal works also.
Syed informed the APNS members about the developmental projects completed in Karachi and the recently started works worth billions of rupees. “The citizens will be able to get more civic facilities,” he added.
APNS President Hameed Haroon thanked the KMC for holding the reception. “This will encourage the editors and journalists associated with different newspapers,” he said.
Senior journalist Altaf Hussain Qureshi said the KMC has done a commendable job by giving such respect to the journalist community. “They have in fact won our hearts,” he added.
Journalist Professor Hasan was of the view that the reception was an “honour for us”.
The reception was attended by the owners and editors of different newspapers and magazines.
KMC Municipal Commissioner Matanat Ali Khan along with the heads of KMC departments and a number of prominent citizens were also present at the hotel.
