It is cause for celebration that the Pakistan cricket team has become Asian champion after defeating Bangladesh. In the Asia cup, Pakistan’s overall performance was good and it looks like the new coach Dev Whatmore’s appointment is step in the right direction.
Since the team has won the tournament, the mistakes will not be highlighted but there are few things which should be addressed as soon as possible. Apart from Umar Gul and Aizaz Cheema, we have no other fast bowler that is performing consistently; this will matter a lot when Pakistan will play outside Asia.
Moreover, Misbah-ul-Haq’s replacement should also be looked at as the new captain should be appointed before 1-2 years before 2015 World Cup so that he can gain some experience. Thus, it is the right time to appoint Mohammad Hafeez as vice captain of Pakistan cricket team so that he can learn the art of captaincy and be groomed for the job that he is the successor for.
