The awards committee of the open course ware consortium has selected the Virtual University open course ware site as the 2012 recipient of the outstanding new site award for open course ware excellence. The open course ware consortium is a US-based collaboration of higher education institutions and associated organizations from around the world creating a broad and deep body of open educational content using a shared model. The outstanding new site award is conferred annually by the committee and recognises an outstanding institutional or affiliate sites launched during the previous calendar year. The award was previously given to the University of Sumatera Utara Open Course Ware.
