JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Tuesday called for a thorough probe against former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf for allegedly showing negligence towards building of dams by India on rivers flowing into Pakistan from Indian-held Kashmir (IHK). He was commenting on former Pakistani Indus water commissioner Syed Jamaat Ali Shah’s statement. According to a statement, Fazl said, “Traitors should be punished and if any Pakistani was involved in covertly helping India in making dams on rivers in IHK, he should meet the same fate.” According to the 1960 Indus Water Treaty, three rivers Chenab, Jehlum and Indus flow into Pakistan from IHK. The JUI-F chief observed that water was a very important issue and there should be no negligence in this regard. He said that the Parliamentary Kashmir Committee held two meetings to discuss the matter of construction of dams by India and advised the Federal Water and Power Ministry to take all necessary measures in this regard.

  1. India has gone by Indus Water Treaty for the three rivers without violating the Treaty. If at all, according to JUI-F chief some dam has been constructed, even then, water will be used by the people of J&K because their is no way to use the water for other areas of India. Pakistan seems to have objections for the water to be used by people of J&K where as it has been shouting from international rooftops for the welfare of people of J&K. If peole like Maulana Fazlur Rehman say that J&K belongs to them, then, India has constructed the Dam for Pakistan. Either the Indians are fools or the Pakistanis are irrational (mad). Let Maulana Fazlur Rehman make it clear as to where he stands for People of J&K vis a vis Dam water.
