People’s protest against 18-hour power cuts on Tuesday turned violent in Jhelum and Faisalabad.
Enraged protesters in Faisalabad scuffled with police, damaging public properties when they came on roads against power outages in the city.
More than a hundred people, carrying sticks and stones in hands, staged protest demonstration on Samandari Road in Faisalabad, chanting slogans against authorities for their failure to curb prolonged outages in different areas
The protest turned violent after the enraged people stopped vehicles in a bid to forcefully block the main intersection, pelting moving cars with stones.
People also destroyed public properties on the road, damaging sign boards and traffic signals.
The protest lasted for more than three hours, turning the area into battle field as law enforcers arrested over two dozen people.
In Jhelum, protestors attacked the Wapda office and damaged it during the rally.
The protesters complained power and gas cuts are intermittently following each other. The people also demanded of the government to quit if it could not solve people’s problems.
